Australians are now part of the large trend of tattoo removals, as evidenced by the boom in tattoo removal services across the seas. The sector is growing, according to IbisWorld, who valued the tattoo and piercing services to be worth $160 million in 2016. The research group cite this as being a direct consequence of celebrities, particularly sports and movie stars, and changing consumer attitudes, making it now socially accepted to get a tattoo. 

However, with all decisions there are inevitably regrets, and tattoo removals are now becoming equally commonplace. Recent studies have shown that 27% of Australians with tattoos have regrets about their ink choices, and a further 15% have either researched tattoo removal or undergone the process.

She says that there has been an influx of rival businesses looking to cater to those who want their inks removed. However, despite the high financial costs, the incentive to get a tattoo hasn’t dropped, but the desire to keep the ink on permanently is waning, which is what many people feel is the contributor towards rising tattoo and tattoo removal business. Tattoos are being viewed by many, particularly 18 – 21 year olds, as a cool spur-of-the-moment idea, however as the skin ages and the ink starts to look a little tired, the appeal can fade, which then means more business for tattoo removal services.
